His great-grandparents ran in the Oklahoma land run in Alfalfa County, staking wheat farms passed down for generations.</h4>He earned a Bachelor of Arts from Oklahoma State University in Russian Language and Literature, and attended graduate language studies in Moscow, Russia. Upon returning to the U.S., Austin taught Russian Language and Algebra at John Marshall High School in Oklahoma City.He continued his graduate studies at Boston University, completing a master’s degree in International Relations, and thereafter worked as a political analyst and program administrator on collaborative nuclear non-proliferation programs between Russian and American scientists at Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico.While completing his law degree at Oklahoma City University School of Law, Austin worked at a consultant to the International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna, Austria.Graduating from law school with honors, Austin passed the California Bar Examination, sat separately for the Oklahoma Bar Exam, and is also licensed to practice law in Texas and Missouri. He started his legal career as a judicial clerk, preparing law and motion memoranda and briefing judges on findings, at the Superior Court of Santa Clara County in San Jose, California.For 25 years, Austin Reams has represented many individuals and businesses, practicing law in several civil disciplines. After embarking on a solo practice in 2012, Reams Law was founded.&nbsp;Austin has legal experience fighting to protect the right to vote in court.Austin is married to Ling-Chu Lin, who is also an attorney. They live in Edmond, Oklahoma, with their twin daughters, who attend Edmond Santa Fe High School. Austin studies Kendo, ranked 2nd Dan. The Republicans have proposed cutting the state income tax completely. While that sounds good for hard-working Oklahomans, in effect, teachers would be paying the same tax rate as the oil and gas industry, since sales tax would be the primary state income tax left.&nbsp; Large industries and “big box” companies should be required to pay their income taxes for the benefit of Oklahoma health care, education, roads, and other public programs.

Oklahomas already voted for constitutional Medicaid expansion. Their decision should be respected. I will protect Medicaid benefits from Republican efforts to remove Medicaid expansion from the protections of the State constitution.The Republicans have passed legislation that undercuts dental insurance benefits in favor of insurance companies, requiring Oklahomans to pay for all providers' charges not fully paid by the insurer. I will protect health care benefits, including discounted rates to which providers had agreed.

I have experience litigating voting rights in Court. I will continue that fight at the Oklahoma capitol. After the U.S. Supreme Court threw out years of legal precedent, redistricting initiatives are coming to our State. Protecting the equal right to vote is central to our democracy. I have the experience to win this fight.

The U.S. Supreme Court recently gutted the Voting Rights Act, a centerpiece of America's democracy.States including Louisiana, Alabama and Tennessee have rushed to redraw voting district, weakening equal voting rights to benefit the majority. This battle is coming to Oklahoma soon.

Voting Rights

Many teachers have had little choice but to leave the State for better pay and benefits. The recent pay increase was more like a "bonus." Oklahoma educators and students deserve better. My experience working as a teacher in Oklahoma City Public Schools helped teach me more about the lives of educators. I know how demanding and rewarding the job of educators are. I will stand strong for better teach pay and benefits!
